5 Realistic Transfer Targets for Newcastle United

 Newcastle United's Future

Just a few months ago, as everyone must have known by now one of the biggest takeover's was completed  in football history. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bought The Toon for about £305m.

The PIF worth around £320 Billion. Yes, Billion! Made the club the richest in the world by a mile. Newcastle is now richer than the top 10 clubs richest clubs in the world combined and about 13 times richer than the 19 Premier League Clubs combined.

With the January Transfer window coming up soon, we look at ways they can make smart moves in the market at a short notice and maybe even in the summer.

In this article we look at 5 top and realistic transfers that Newcastle could complete in January or in the summer which could help them survive relegation and maybe become a better club over time.

NOTE: None of the below transfers are completed or speculated, they are only suggestions by the author.

1. Eden Hazard

The Belgian star winger currently playing at Real Madrid is evidently going through the toughest period of his career scoring just 4 goals in 2+ seasons at the Spanish capital. Add to that the further bad luck of missing 57 games due to injury and several more due to bad form.
He might be looking for a move elsewhere very soon as during the summer he was reportedly offered to Juventus for £30m. Just yesterday he was linked to be rejoining Chelsea for a swap with Reece James worth £40m.
We feel that he would be a perfect fit at Newcastle given that they have a capable medical team to look after their players. They do not have massive amounts of injuries and as is evident from their current scenarios, their wingers - Saint Maximin and Almiron are usually fit all the time.
Also since no top player will be ready to  join Newcastle currently, the PL proven Hazard might just be a perfect fit if they play a trio of Hazard-Saint Maximin-Almiron.

2. Aurelien Tchouameni

Newcastle have clearly stated their intentions during the takeover - they want to be a top club in about 5 years. For this they cannot be competing with a midfield of  and Shane Longstaff, Joe Willock and Isaac Hayden. Though they could develop players like Willock, they need a strong presence in the midfield which is one of their weakest links.
Monaco Defensive Midfielder Tchouameni could be an ideal deal for them. He is a midfielder who can play as a CDM, a regista and as a double 6. He is anyways looking for a move soon after being linked with Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona over the summer. With the influx of cash at the Toon this move could seem likely. Had this takeover happened a year ago, Camavinga too would have been a top player to get but now that he is at Madrid it seems doubtful.

3. Renato Sanches

As said previously Newcastle need a stable midfield  for which Portuguese star Renato Sanches could be a good fit. He was the hot property in world football after the 2016 Euros but dropped of after that. Now after another dominant Euros and League performance he could fancy a move to Newcastle. He would fit in perfectly with Willock and Tchouameni as he is a goal scoring midfielder who can even play as in a double 6 with Tchouameni.

4. Kalidou Koulibaly

One of the best Centre Halves in the world playing at Napoli, Koulibaly is linked to all top clubs every single transfer window. Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Juventus, you name it! However he is till date stuck at Napoli. His desired move to the Premier League might now seem a reality with Newcastle.
This transfer could be the most beneficial and important one for Newcastle as their defence is in shambles. Players like Hayden, Manquillo and Ritchie are good but not good enough for a team that wants to go for the title. Also with Frank Lampard the favourite to take over the job from Steve Bruce in the coming weeks, this could be perfect for the team. Playing 4 at the back with another established CB.

5. Sven Botman

The Dutch Centre Back, who one the league with Lille last season is currently one of the most underrated defenders in the world. In our opinion most top clubs should have been after the 21 year old defender, but that was not the case.
After winning a one horse race league he should have been snapped up immediately considering how good he was. This can however, prove to be good for Newcastle as they can actually sign him considerably easily as no major bid wars have taken place for him. He along with Koulibaly or even Cresswell of West Ham (who is rumored to join Newcastle) could be a formidable CB partnership under Lampard. As they say in Germany "Attack wins you games, Defence wins you titles."

Conclusion:

The next window will be crucial for Newcastle as even after their financial takeover they still need to survive relegation this season if things go haywayer.  Thus, signing at least 2 top players should be the priority. In addition to the above players, players like Olivier Giroud, Aaron Cresswell, Jesse Lingard and Frank Lampard as manager could also be good options.
