'The Triangle'
Over the past couple weeks, it has been made official that Romelu Lukaku is back at Chelsea, Edin Dzeko has moved from AS Roma to Inter as Lukaku's replacement and Chelsea's Tammy Abraham has been sold to Roma in-turn.
In this article we will cover the details of these deals and show which club had the best and worst deal of the 3. Under Each clubs title we will discuss the details of their signing.
Tammy Abraham arrives at Rome i'ntl airport
Chelsea: ( Lukaku In - Abraham Out )
We'll start of with Chelsea who have clearly got the best deal of the three clubs and while doing so have still managed to have a net profit this window.
Marina Grasvoka brought in Lukaku to solve their finishing issues for a reported £97m breaking the clubs record transfer fee (Kepa Arrizabalaga 72m). At the same time they have sold Tammy Abraham to Roma for around £40m.
Romelu Lukaku transfer details:
- Reported transfer fees is £97m (€112m) to be paid this window itself - not in installments.
- Lukaku will earn around £10.2m yearly. This means he will earn around £195k/week.
- There will be no buyback clause for Inter and rightly so for a 28 year old.
- There will be certain unspecified bonuses given to Lukaku over his salalry.(Rumoured to be £2m for 20+ PL goals in a season; there is also a clause for winning the PL/UCL). Inter as a club will not be eligible to any bonuses according to the contract.
All in all with sales made worth £98m and signings so far for £97m, Chelsea have got themselves a massive win.
Inter Milan:(Dzeko In - Lukaku Out)
Inter Milan, the defending Italian Champions have by far got the worst deal of the 3 clubs. Letting a striker who is top 5 in the world go and replace him with a washed up Serie A striker from 7th place Roma isn't the best of things to do. The experienced Dzeko got only 7 goals in 27 games for Roma last season.
Edin Dzeko to Inter Milan details:
- The least complicated of the 3 deals is Edin Dzeko from AS Roma to Inter Milan. He was out of contract at Roma and signed for Inter on a free.
- The contract signed is until 2023, which is a 2 year contract.
- The Bosnian's fee has not yet been reported however he is expected to take a large paycut from what he was earning at Roma which was €5m.
- Roma in this deal, do have a bonus clause inserted. They will receive €1.5m from Inter should they qualify for the UCL at least once in Dzeko's 2 years at Inter.
- There is no option to extend until 2024 immediately for the 35 year old. Negotiations will have to be re-held.
AS Roma: (Abraham In - Dzeko Out)
AS Roma after having a dismal 2020/21 season wanted a striker who could score consistently. Dzkeo although one of their biggest legends was now aging so they have moved on and got Tammy Abraham from Chelsea for £40m. This is a very interesting deal as, Tammy is still young and has goals to back himself even at a young age.
Tammy Abraham to AS Roma details:
- The transfer fee as said above is reported to be £40m.
- Roma will buy him on a 4 year deal until 2025/26. However, nothing is imminent, it is supposed to be between 3-5 years.
- The most interesting part for Chelsea in this deal is the lucrative buy-back clause in the contract worth £68m which will be activated from 2023.
- The Roma board will release £5m of the £40m with immediate effect to Chelsea but the remaining £35m will be paid in installments over the period of Abraham's contract.
- Roma have also offered bonuses to both Tammy and the Club - Chelsea. Although they are unspecified at the moment.
