UEFA EURO 2020 - TOTT

Team of The Tournament

The UEFA EURO 2020 concluded yesterday with Roberto Mancini's Italy winning the prestigious competition. As always after a major tournament, we present to you our Team of the Tournament(TOTT) for the Euro's. We have shortlisted 18 players for this team with obviously 11 starters and the rest as substitutes.
The formation we are using is the conventional 4-4-2 formation.

DEFENCE:

GOALKEEPER - Gianluigi Donnaruma (ITA)

The Italian goalie often regarded as the re incarnation of the legendary Gianluigi Buffon had an outstanding season winning the Player of The Tournament and keeping 3 clean sheets and making some world class saves too. In his international career the young stalwart has managed to never concede more than 1 goal in any match. Weather or not he deserved the Player of the Tournament is debatable but no one can deny that he was the best goalie this Euros..

Full Backs - Shaw(ENG) and Dumfries(NED)

The 2 fullbacks in the team are England and Man United's LB Luke Shaw along with the Dutch defender Dumfries. Having Luke Shaw in this team is almost a no brainer as he has been one of the best left-back's in the world this season. His resurrection to top class has bought joy to English and Man Utd fans across the globe. He has given crucial assists and made good overlapping runs this Euros not to miss his goal in the final which was unfortunately for him cancelled out by Italy.
Our RB, Dumfries from Netherlands might not have had the best tournament as a team but his individual performances at fullback have shown that he is highly underrated and is maybe even ready to move from PSV to a top club in Europe.

Centre Backs - Maguire(ENG) and Cheillini(ITA)

Harry Maguire and Giorgio Cheillini are our Centre Halves for the team both had incredible tournaments with Maguire especially - who concede 0 goals until the Quarter Finals after which also he conceded just 2 goals in the SF and Finals. Overall his impact to the team was immense.
On the other hand the ever green Italian Cheillini just put in another belter of a tournament and one more feather in his cap. After having a disappointing end to the club season losing the Serie A to Inter Milan this was an amazing way for the 36 year old to redeem himself.

Midfielders:

Centre Mids: Jorginho(ITA) and Pedri(ESP)

Jorginho and Pedri both have been super influential for their nations respectively. Both have dominated the midfield in every game they played. On one hand Jorginho was making superb forward passes and tackles+interceptions while on the other 18 year old Pedri was making scintillating passes rarely misplacing them.
Jorginho even set the record for most interceptions in a single Euros tournament (25), surpassing the record of Marcel Desailly (24).

Wing Mids: Chiesa(ITA) and Sterling(ENG)

There are no words to describe the impact Chiesa and Sterling have had for Italy and England respectively. Sterling single handedly got England out of the doldrums in the group stages by scoring consistently. Yes he did dive in the semi final, but one cannot ignore the impact he has had for this team when players like Mount, Kane and Foden were not proving to be as effective as they should.
The Juventus youngster Chiesa was often overlooked by most non- Serie A fans calling him overrated due to The Old Ladies' dismal season. However Chiesa has totally proved his doubters wrong by being one of the best attackers in the Euros. The pair of him along with Insigne has shaken all of Europe down, scoring goals after goals and making threatening runs.

STRIKERS:

Cristiano Ronaldo (POR) and Patrick Schick (CZE)

The 2 Strikers in our lineup are the Portuguese GOAT and Patrick Schick from Czech Republic. Both these players have scored 5 goals each and both also manged to reach the Round of 16 and Quarter Finals respectively. Cristiano at even the age of 36 is going strong and was the sole reason of happiness for Portugal even though this time their squad was full of superstars like Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, etc.
Patrick Schick was a player that has totally surprised the world with his goal scoring form this tournament. The Bayer Leverkusen player who spent seasons on loan at RB Leipzig and Leverkusen (his parent club was Roma at the time) has been absolutely unstoppable and has even received deserved praise from the greatest Czech ever - Petr Cech himself.

Substitutes:

GK - Sommer (SWI)

LB - Spinazzola (ITA)

CM - Hojbjerg (DEN)

CM - Pogba (FRA)

CB - Christensen (DEN)

RB - Maehle (DEN)

CF/ST - Havertz (GER)
