UCL TOTS - 2020-2021

 "UCL TOTS"

Just sometime back, UEFA released a squad of 23 players which forms the UCL 2020-2021 Team of The Season(TOTS). Of the 23, we here have selected 11 players to be a part of our TOTS, obviously the rest being substitutes and reserves.

So to begin with we selected our formation which would be an unconventional 5-3-2.

DEFENCE:

Edouard Mendy #1

The Chelsea goalkeeper kept 9 clean sheets in the 13 games Chelsea played along with making some tremendous saves from the like of Benzema, Suarez, Felix, Foden, De Bruyne, etc. With keeping 9/13
clean sheets Mendy has equaled the record Navas(2015) and Canizares(2001). He has also had the best debut season ever in the UCL as a goalkeeper.

Cesar Azpilicueta #28 and Ben Chilwell #21

There is little to say about the Chelsea Captain who has by far been the best RB/RWB this season in the UCL.His leadership is A class his defense is A class and even his attack isn't all that bad as we covered in our previous article.
Ben Chilwell on the other hand has strengthened the teams left side defensively and has been decent offensively ever since he joined the Blues in 2020 and has done more than enough to make our TOTS ahead of Alaba.

Dias #3, Rudiger#2 and Marquinhos #5

Our 3 Centre backs are the City wonderkid Dias, UCL winner Rudiger and PSG captain Marquinhos.

On one hand Dias and Rudiger since their arrival and reinstation respectively have transformed their squads defenses totally making City and Chelsea's defenses the best in the world while as for Marquinhos; he had to fill in the void created by Thiago Silva's departure which he has done well and managed to get PSG even to the semi-final.

MIDFIELD:

Our 3 midfielders include:

Mount #19, Kante #7 and Foden #47

With Kante putting in uncountable world class performances since Tuchels arrival he totally deserves to be in this list. He also won 4 of 7 available MoTM's in the Knockout stages. This version of N'golo Kante is a mix of his defensive style from 2015-2017 and an offensive style of 2018-19 thus making him almost unplayable. So much so that if he wins the Euros with France he is bound to be in the Balon d Or top 3.
Mount an Foden two of the best English talents make our XI for the reason that Mount has been nothing but class in this campaign with on and off the ball work second only to the like of Kante. He makes sensational through passes, runs and high balls along with scoring and assisting at crucial times. Foden on the other hand is a midfielder who's scoring ability this season reminds people of Lampard and Zidane while his his passing ability has earned him the nickname 'Stockport Iniesta'. He is hailed by many managers and pundits to be the next big thing in world football and he didn't let them down with his performances.

FORWARDS:

Erling Haaland #17 and Kylian Mbappe #10*

There is no surprise in selecting the 2 young stalwarts into the XI. Haaland has scored 10 goals in this campaign ending as the top scorer  while Mbappe has ended the season reaching the semi final though not playing and yet scoring 8 goals finishing as the second highest goalscorer this season despite playing as a winger at times.
Lewandowski(5 goals) and Benzema(6 goals) came close in this selection.

*mbappe is given #10 due to kante having #7

Conclusion:

This being our final XI we feel it is the best possible team as it is highly balanced and versatile.Players like Azpilicueta,Mount,Foden and Mbappe can play in several positions as well which makes the team complete.

Some players which were hard to exclude according to us but make the subs are:
Jorginho
Neymar
Lewandowski
Benzema
Alaba
Ederson
De bruyne
Modric
